A wonderful spring walk is to be found along the nature trail through the „Frühlingstal Biotope“ in the Montiggler Forest:

Matschatsch and the Eppan high-level route
A good days hike
Time: 6 hours
Owing to the length of the walk, an early start is recommended. Leaving the centre of St. Michael, the route takes you up to the Gleif Church and then some 20 minutes later to the Hotel Steinegger.
Path number 7, leading southwest, shows the way. Up the hill of Matschatsch– to the south can be viewed the castle of Matschatsch in its idyllic location. Above, on the “Michaeler Riebn”, on curve no. 6 on the road, is the start of the well-known “Eppan high-level route” (no. 9).
The walk takes some 3 hours to the guesthouse at Buchwald and thence down to the Kreuzstein Hotel, past Freudenstein Castle and back to St. Michael.
